Site News :: dsl v4.4.6

File is not truely left open while editing. It was read into buffer of said editor. Typically a file is opened for reading then closed. File is later opened for writing then closed.  This is true for nano and vi as well. And this is not unique to 4.4.6. If you wish not to allow yourself to unmount while editing then best to navigate (cd) to said device.
is there a difference between the new bootcode and using
Code Sample
desktop=fluxbox

or does it just add the icons?

i prefer to use fluxbox and rox so i added the "noicons" cheat.

No change to desktop options. You can still use desktop=fluxbox
The boot option of "noicons" also has not been changed and still works as before.

What is new is the option to specify icons=xtdesk and the new boot option of "classic". Using classic is only a shortcut for desktop=fluxbox icons=xtdesk

Using icons=xtdesk is not only the larger single click icons but also the mount tool via the "docked" program and fluxter the pager, i.e., the desktop as presented in 3.x.

Then there must be more files in my backup that prevents what I'm trying. I want to restore the good ole' 3x look and I've replaced the three files mentioned in this threads first post. However, whatever combinations of cheatcodes and whatever I try, this is where I'm at:
I've got fluxbox and fluxter the pager OK, but whatever I try icons stays dfm and no xtdesk. And wmswallow presents a white rectangle with no mounttool or anything inside.

However, when I boot with the "norestore" option all work as intended AFAIK... So obviously more files in my backup should be replaced/modified. I don't really want to start from scratch as that backup.tar.gz contains numerous costumizations I've added over time and all else works OK. So I'll rather localize and fix the actual problem(s)... Any clues anybody?

It is your .desktop file comming from your backup that is messing you up. The .desktop file contains the desktop window manager and choice of icon manager. You can edit this file or choose not to include it in your backup.
