HD Install :: Automatically mounting a hard drive partition

Didn't know you were running a frugal.. but here's some explanations.

Using /etc/fstab: after you edit it, you need to add it to your backup as curaga said, but then I think you also need to boot with the "nofstab" cheatcode.

Anything in /KNOPPIX is read-only (not counting adding unionfs layers)
