HD Install :: NOT LOADING

DSL Isn't loading i get an errors saying
/etc/rc5.d/s99boot local: line 15: unexpected EOF While looking for matching '"'
/etc/rc5.d/s99boot local: line 16: syntax error: unexpected end of file

is their a way this can be sorted? I need to get some files of there at least. Please help me !

after typing "startx" it begins to load still in the 'booting screen' and says xinit: no such file or directory (errno 2): no program names "/home/DSL/.xinit rc" in your path.

Specify a program on the command line or make sure that /usr/X11r6/bin is in your path

What's going on? I Hate dsl i only want a simple server where i can test php with a f2p server running as well :@

if you hate DSL i recommend you go bark up another tree. this board is for those who are fans of DSL.

Maybe the filesystem hasn't been checked for a long time?
If you have the livecd with you, you could boot from that and do:
`e2fsck -fp /dev/hdaX` (the partition where DSL is installed)

I have tried "e2fsck -fp /dev/hdaX" but it doesn't seem to reconise the hard drive, maybe because it's loading from the RAM?

Thanks for your view, I'm using DSL Because it's small and runs quick on my 950mhz pc. I don’t like it because I’m not used to it and I keep getting errors that i'm not used to. I would love to know how to use it but with all the problems i'm having i don't think i have the time, I just want to test my php codes and maybe use it to host a website or two.
Btw is this not the place where you also get help? if it's not. Sorry gusse i should just re-vert back to windows...

I Hope this can be sorted soon, Cheers for your recommendation Stupid_Idiot, anymore? any one else?

Very sorry - `e2fsck -fp /dev/hdaX` where X is not literal but a number, the number of the partition where DSL has been installed. I am sorry I did not make this clear.
Anyway, it is easy to find out the partition number. Please run `cfdisk` and looking at the information presented, try to identify which is the partition with DSL inside. Most importantly, the partition number is in the left-most column. Other attributes, especially 'FS Type' and 'Size (MB)', may help you identify the correct partition.
Then:
`e2fsck -fp /dev/hdaX` - where X is the number of the partition you have identified. This is to check the partition for any errors and fix them automatically. It may help your problem - but I think it is quite possible the problem lies elsewhere. Still, I think it is a good thing to try first.
