HD Install :: Installing to HDA and running out of space

Hi there
I'm using DSL 4 as you all know by now....... just testing it it out...

I am a bit confused ....I tried to do a hard disk install and there's no hda1 or hda2 partition to install to ( I have a 20gb IDE drive).
My first question is how can I wipe this drive - can you use an fdisk or something ( I don't have a dos boot disk to hand!)

In the installer in DSL, I  installed to hda ( as this was the only thing in the mnt folder ) and the installer asked ' no partitions found use the entire device?
Then I was asked if I wanted to install Grub or Lilo so I went with Grub.

When I try to boot from hard disk it's saying Boot partition not found. Yet when I boot from CD it's restored all my drive from Hda. Can someone explain what has happened here please? Has it used my whole 20gb drive? It is reporting that it is out of space already which I find weird.

It would be really useful to have some little tool that lets you see how much hard drive space you have in the (dare I say) windows pie chart thingy.....I'm hunting around trying to find out how much space I have left on HDA and how I can start again!

Thanks everyone.

cfdisk is easier to use than fdisk. Just start it (with sudo) and create some partitions.

With them you won't probably have as much trouble..
