HD Install :: How do you install and run DSL as a live CD

Sounds like a corrupt download, or just a corrupt cd copy.
I would agree, try a re-download / burn.  Also, DSL has multiple way's to partition the disk, you can always fdisk it, but if you run the livecd there is an install-hd option where it walks you through the whole thing, not as visually amazing as a fedora install, but it holds you hand through the steps including disc partitioning.

Maybe I expect too much by "it holds you hand"...

I've now got DSL 4.1 running as a Live-CD on my old laptop.
I did consider to make a HD install, but as I have understood, frugal installation is more recommended (for easier updates).

Anyway, in both cases the HD needs to be partitioned. Which I'd like to do to get rid of the old OS...
The HD install asks me to
"Enter the target partition. (EXAMPLE: hda2): "

Do I just pick a name? Why hda2?

How do I look at what capacity my HD has?

If you boot DSL with the install label it will present you with many tools for installing. At the first boot prompt:

boot: install

You can use cfdsik to look at the hard drive and re-partition it.
