HD Install :: Install DSL on an old Windows95 computer

I've already tried XSETUP and I must have pages 41-43 memorized by now. I've been through it so many times.

I have tried choosing a different COM port each time. There must be something else I'm missing here. Could it be that I didn't set up the boot floppy correctly? Or maybe I'm missing a driver?

Could be an irq conflict or perhaps you have two mouse devices plugged in?

What does cat .xserverrc show?

What does ls -la /dev/mouse show?

I only have 1 mouse plugged in--the serial mouse, 2 button.

The only other things plugged in are the keyboard, monitor and power.

Unplugged things include: speakers, microphone, modem, phone line, ethernet cable to cable modem, printer.

How do I find what "cat .xserverrc" and "ls -la /dev/mouse" shows?
(i.e. what are they and where do I find them?)
