Multimedia :: Vortex 2 Soundcard

I have a Vortex 2 card, which I found some Debian "drivers" for on the net.

au88xx-kernel-source.deb is the package. Then I found out I have to use some other package to make a kernel from another package, into a new kernel that supports my soundcard.

I tried just running the Sound Configuration from the menu in DSL 0.7.2, but the dialog said:

"Found Vortex 2 soundcard"
"Vortex 2 soundcard is not currently supported"
so scratch that

Has anyone else had to do this? I need help.  :D
The page where I found the drivers:  http://src.braincells.com/debian/sid/au88xx/

Does it work with knoppix?  If so,
try the alsadebs.dsl package in the testing area ..

I can't find this package "alsadebs.dsl" anywhere. What testing area are you talking about?

The knoppix kernel detects my soundcard and loads the appropriate module, "au88xx" but none of the audio apps in 0.7.6(or 0.8.0) work. And, no mixer panel appears in enhanced mode.

Go to the "myDSL repository is online" link on the main web page at www.damnsmalllinux.org

Then click on the Testing area.

Be sure to read the alsadebs.info file before downloading it because it contains important instructions.

After following the the info file, I now have sound! Awesome!

It should be noted that I edited my /etc/lilo.conf to boot with the "alsa" option, after a HDD install. Then moved to a folder in my home directory, used wget to get the file alsadebs.dsl from the testing page, and used sudo emelfm to higlight the file, then the "myDSL' button within emelfm. "Install ALSA" became present in the desktop menu under myDSL. After running it XMMS would play mp3z.

Thanks for your help!
