It's /opt/.firefox_plugins (a hidden directory), not /opt/firefox/plugins. What you typed looks like what you'd get in a firefox uci extension, which would explain the permission error (uci is read-only, like a cdrom)

for DSL 2.2 (firefox 1.0.6) flash seems only to work if the plugin is copied to

/home/dsl/.mozilla/plugins

I also recommend the flash blocker http://flashblock.mozdev.org/ to stop unfriendly flash ads.
