Multimedia :: XMMS and Internet Radio

Ok guys,

I know you're all smarter than I am and have found out how to get XMMS to play internet radio.

So when you hit CTL-L and enter a value 'Play from this location' what URLs are you typing it?

Also what additional myDSL software (if any) did you have to install?

Mule,

I'm not sure if this is the answer you want but what the heck... I've got an answer looking for a question....

Lets say I want to listen to WMUB radio on the internet.  I go over to the www.wmub.org website and I see that they have three ways to listen online.  Windows Media Player, Real Player and MP3.

I right-click the MP3 link and do a save-link-as  wmub.pls

Then I look at the wmub.pls file and I see
Code Sample

[playlist]
File1=http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/wmub/local-wmub-462401.mp3
Title1=WMUB Public Radio Intro
Length1=-1
File2=http://pubint.ic.llnwd.net/stream/pubint_wmub
Title2=WMUB Public Radio Stream
Length2=-1
NumberOfEntries=2
Version=2

It's that FILE2 that I want to enter.

So start up XMMS... CNTL-L and enter http://pubint.ic.llnwd.net/stream/pubint_wmub

This should work for any MP3 feed.  WMUB is a little different in that they play a leader file (FILE1) before you can listen to their web broadcast.  Some stations will only have one file.

Good luck

EVEN SIMPLER: XMMS RECOGNIZES .PLS FILES AS FILES. If the "play now" link on the web site is an mp3 or ogg link, right click and "save as." You may want to rename the .pls file to indicate the station, for example,  instead of "shoutcast-playlist.pls" to "wumbfast.pls." Open up XMMS's playlist editor and click on "add file" to add the .pls file. When you get a number of .pls files in the editor, click on the "list" button, slide up to "save list", and give the saved list of .pls files a .pls extension. I call mine "radio.pls."  Any time I want to open my collection of streams, I just "play file" and pick "radio.pls."  DOESN'T WORK FOR WMA OR REAL (EXCUSE THE CAPS, PLEASE-THE EDITOR JUST GOT WEIRD, WON'T LET ME TYPE LOWER CASE).
I'M RUNNING DSL ON AN OLD P133 LAPTOP AS A STREAMING RADIO SERVER ATOP MY HI FI. AMAZING DISTRO.
I have two favorite radio URLs, I play so:

mplayer -cache=50 http://stream.radionostalgie.it/radionostalgie
mplayer -cache=50 http://vipmms9.yacast.net/encodernostalgie

They transmit international melodic music, oldies from 60 and 70 years.
Somebody knows others from that style, or classic music, or instrumental music for recommend me?
