Multimedia :: weird sound problems

hello everyone! thanks a lot for time & effort that everyone puts into DSL.

I have this weird problem, mp3's & ogg's in XMMS play slooowly one 1 second in the song is about 3 or 4 seconds realtime(the cpu is @ 15% when the file is playing). any ideas on what might be causing this?

btw Im using dsl 2.3 and an old thinkpad 380z (PII 233, Ram 160MB, Hardrive 1GB).
