Multimedia :: DVD Playing Software
To be honest I am a Windows guy... But I use a ton of Unix servers at work, however don't use them for entertainment. I am thinking of converting to a Linux distribution and I really like the Idea of a Small operating system like DSL.
one of things I currently use my computer for is Watching DVDs When I built the Machine I installed a DVD-R drive so that I can also write CDs and back stuff up. (plus they were pretty cheap when I purchased it so I figured why not)
My question is does DSL have a player in the installation for DVD viewing Or CD writing? or is this separate software I'm going to have to get and install?
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
regards,
Jason.
xine and mplayer are available in the mydsl respository for movie viewing. You may need to install additional codecs / dvd decryption algorythms to watch commercial DVDs.
tkdvd is available to write a dvd.
All are in the "Multimedia" section of the mydsl repository.
Thank you for your help I have found them now. I think I'll be able to give this a try.
are codecs also freely available?
Well I managed to get a DVD playing yesterday using Xine. I had an issue with it skipping and I did a search and found out about setting the DVD drive to DMA mode and that cleared it up.
