Multimedia :: dell E1705 sound not working

Ah that's really too bad if it doesn't even show up under lspci (modules loaded or not, the chip should still show up here).  You could try DSL-N (2.6 kernel) if you want to.

tried alsa but no sound. boot with 'dsl alsa' option. installed gnuutils.dsl,alsadebs.dsl,alsa.dsl,dpkg.dsl ...still no sound ...

randi

Ah, maybe I missed it, but what version of DSL are you using?  The gnu-utils/alsadeb/dpkg route is for older versions as I recall (1.x, 2.x?).

At any rate I have had some luck with DSL 3.0.1 and snd-hda-intel by booting with the "alsa" option, installing the Alsa drivers from the Testing repository http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub...., and entering the modprobe command string: modprobe snd-hda-intel;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss.

I get good sound, but no software volume control with either dmix or multimedia apps.  Others with Intel on-board sound seem to have had this same problem with DSL.

For me the same MB works flawlessly with Ubuntu, and also with Puppy 2.11.

Can anyone provide any information on whether the intel HDA chipset can be recognized and function with latest versions of DSL?

I had to abandon DSL 3.x because I could never get any kind of volume control.

So if anyone has had luck with getting control over the intel HDA chipset, please let me know.

TIA
