Multimedia :: flashplayer9

Not sure if this helps, but I have had flash 9 runing with firefox 2.0.0.3 with DSL 3.0.1 probably since it was released.  No problems yet.

I am running it on a P3 866 with 512 MB RAM. I installed the GTK2 package, GCC, and any other libraries flash asked for.  I first set up ALSA and made sure that was working.  Then I installed the firefox browser from the tar.gz on mozilla's website.  Then I installed flash from source, and linked the plugin as instructed by adobe's website.

It just worked.

Given firefox has been through a few revisions since, and so has DSL, but I know installation with FF 2.0.0.3, and DSL 3.0.1 has been working without a hitch.

Then I installed flash from source

Last I checked, Flash was *only* available as a precompiled binary -- hence the objections of groups like FSF and the reason for the existence of projects like Gnash.

Part of the problem with Flash > 7 is DSL's use of an older glibc. At least that's my understanding.

My bad.  You are correct, I meant to say installed the binary available via adobe's website.  I make the mistake o immediately associating anything not in a package with "source".  And it has been a long time since I set it up. But anyhow, it is still working for me with the combination of DSL 3.0.1, FF 2.0.0.3, and Flash 9.  Can't remember doing anything special.

Oh, I do have the flashblock add-on installed, so I only run the flash I want, but I commonly watch youtube and google videos with it.

Well, I just tried it with FF 2.0.0.14  and it crashed. (DSL 4.X, gtk2).
