Having failed to get the latest Skype 2.n.n.n to work in Fedora8 due to sound issues with pulse audio; I tried Skype 1.2.0.18.dsl on my Keymax 4GB USB stick mounted DSL 4.2.4.
For the record Skype 1.2.0.18.dsl works perfectly "out of the box" including recognising my Nikkai USB handset (Maplin Electronics item ref A72FF).Curious if you're using alsa

You'd know, because you have to boot with dsl alsa in addition to loading the extension. Skype doesn't work well on my Dell Laptop using DSL; I hear it ring but nothing else. I screwed with it for a while, adding one library after the other, and finally gave up.
I tried several distro's with 2.6, and they all work great....sound is clearer than a landline.AFAIK I'm just using my PC's onboard Intel 810 sound controller.
Having said that I did have a sound problem as detailed in my post of 03 Feb 08 in this forum under the title "Viewing Files On A CD".Next Page...
