Multimedia :: Setting up Sound

I run the sounds option in the DSL Control Panel and indicates that I should run that command not in the X Windows environment... is there a CLI commnad to run this setup?  OR will teh sound option work, but I cannot get it to probe properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Soundconfig isn't the greatest tool in the world. I recommend learning what sound chipset you are using then doing a google search or a search in this forum. There are many threads here about setting up some of the more common chipsets.

I have the Crytstal 2160 sound chipset.  Now where can I go to find out the setup procedure?
Without knowing WHAT brand, kind, of computer,
this is about all I can offer for now.
( Laptop or Desktop, Motherboard, internal/add-on soundcard, etc ??.. )

The 2160 is usually a Neomagic chipset number, found on
Dells and other laptops.., not a Crystal chipset number.
The Crystal chipset is usually a 42xx number, 4232, or 4237,
for example.

There is no generic "setup procedure" for soundcards, as you
would infer by your last posting.
Any config lines or additions to bootlocal or modprobe need to
be specific for your chipset.

Post up the output of your "lsmod" command, so we can see the
chipsets detected, if any...

Usually the Crystal 4232 config, with a few tweaks, works for
most of the Crystal chipsets .
You can search for "4232" or "Crystal" in the forums for more info.
