Networking :: Multi-user, samba fileserver howto for wiki?

First off, thanks for DSL.  Been using it for about 7 months and really enjoying it.

I'm setting up a server for multiple users based on DSL, using samba to give windows users access.  My difficulties may stem from my being an intermediate user of linux or not - (some knowledgeable folks had difficulty with some parts).

The forums are helpful but searching on some words has become difficult because of the volume.

I am willing to do a writeup on setting up a server, since I'm doing it now and it seems to be a popular goal mentioned in posts, but it seems such a thing would be best placed on the wiki and then updated as neccesary.

Of course much of the stuff is not DSL specific as the wiki requires:
- setting up users, groups
- passwords
- permissioning dirs
- basic configging samba

And lastly, since I'm not a pro, what I write could contain errors or less than optimal directions, but I imagine folks will submit improvements.

Thanks.  Some of those are some of the posts that I grabbed bits from in getting the server up.

I was thinking of doing sort of a start to finish kind of document.  I think like clivesay's howto on your deb2dsl and others.

Again, if its desired.

Nobody refuses additional help :)

Based on the other posts, you were not the only one who wished to be able to set up such a fileserver.

Sigger..... do it!

Take a whack at it. No one expects it to be perfect. People will take it as a "This is my experience..." type of document. Use the Wiki, the forums or the Blogs whatever works best for you. The DSL documentation project is moving in the right direction but they can always use new submissions.
