Hi dukkieduk, Thx for your contribution to DSL. I've a couple questions regarding your VNC contribution. I've gone to your www looking for answers and looked around here as well. I'm a bit of a 'noob' with only a couple years experience with Linux (between the 'other' OS job and life), so please bear with me if this seems trivial to you.
If you have a howto that I missed, shoot me and send my kids the link :-)
I installed the .dsl that you authored without a hitch. Got icons on the desktop and new entries in the menu. However .....................
#1.) it's a bit muddy to me as to how to configure the server.
#2.) what VNC clients are compatible with windows .. to connect to DSL .. and what clients are compatible with Linux to connect to DSL ?
The error I receive with whatever client I use in windows is 'connection refused (10061)'.
Thx all.Hi, i 've been pretty busy. sorry for the late responce...
I 'm writing an howto for the vnc package. I let you know, i also testing the package under 0.8. AND rewriting it to have it a GREEN dsl label...
i let you , all comments are welcome, thanks
dukkiedukHi dukkieduk, thx for your quick response. I'm afraid that I didn't include the version of DSL that I'm using. What a rookie, huh ? Anyhow it's 0.7.3. Not a big deal if I need to wipe it out and install 0.8. I'm still in the tinkering stage with DSL so I don't really have anything going on, on this box yet. I look forward to your seeing your howto. I'd like to thank you for your time as I can see from your www you have your hands full !! I don't read your language, but as they say, 'pictures are worth a thousand words'. Twins !! You must be quite busy indeed.......... Family first my friend, I'll continue to tinker with other aspects of DSL and check back here now and again. Twins .......... wow ......... lucky kinda guy ;-)Cool Beans !! Thx for your input PollyDan. And thanks again to dukkieduk for creating the .dsl.
I'm making this post from another OS right now using RealVNC as the client, connected to DSL. It's on the local LAN, but a break through for me.The RealVNC exe for windows is vnc-4.0-x86_win32.exe.
The short story: HDD install of DSL 7.3 enhanced Install dukkieduk's vnc .dsl: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl_testing/ Edit the .xinitrc file, located in /etc/X11/xinitrc : adding PollyDan's line x0vncserver -securitytypes=none & Save and exit......... Start the VNC server Install RealVNC on your windows box Connect to the IP of the DSL box Sweet ...........
Thx goes out to both of you. Ya's made my day ;-)Next Page...
