Networking :: PCMCIA Freez-up

after booting up laptop with orinoco gold net card the following shows on screen before the boot-up screen just freezes:

PCMCIA found, starting cardmgr.
cardmgr [54]: starting, version is 3.2.2
cardmgr [54]: socket 0: Lucent Technologies WaveLan/IEEE
cardmgr [54]: executing: 'modprobe orinoco_cs'

(Here is where the screen just stays frozen)...
