Networking :: How do I make DSL recognize my Internet connection
What brand of router is it? The reason I ask is that I had no problem with DSL picking up my connection at home, which is a small network that accesses the Internet via DSL... the other DSL ;-) , via a Linksys router.
Find out what IP address was assigned to your router by default (unless you've changed it), then make sure that when you run netcardconfig that you use that as the gateway. Some routers (like this Linksys I use) also utilize DHCP to assign IP addresses to clients. I've tested DSL on my network using both, and it worked flawlessly.
Hang in there, it *will* work!
Sorry for the late response, just now noticed your post and don't know if you got it working yet or not. I use cable modem (Comcast) and an SMC Barracade router. I got hold of an old Dell laptop and plugged in a PCMCIA Network Interface Card (NIC) and used a dongle to run the cable to my router. Then I put the DSL CD in the drive and pressed the power button, and sat back and watched in amazement as DSL found and activated everything on the computer -- PCMCIA card, USB Wheel Mouse, etc. The light on the dongle came on and the Dillo browser started automatically. I put in my home page URL and it popped up. I don't remember having to set up anything except modifying the VGA screen size to match mine. If you do have to do any network setup it shouldn't be anthing more than specifying DHCP protocol (I assume you use DHCP rather than static IP - if not, put in your IP info) and that should do it. What kind of symptoms are you getting? Any details might help with the diagnosis.
