Networking :: vncserver starting failure

Hi,

I'm adding vncsever to DSL0.7. After first adding vncserver, vncserver fails to run because it needs perl and perl-modules packages.

After I have installed these packages, I got another error by typing vncserver: 1. These errors are found in file /.vnc/box:1.log:

_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 2
failed to set default font path 'unix/:7100,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11//fonts/75dpi'
Fatal server error:
Could not open default font 'fixed'

Could somebody tell me what is wrong?

Now, I found out that this problem is caused by the package xfs. When I issued "dpkg -l", there are some code on the 1st column. xfs has the code "rc". By the way, what does this mean?

After I had upgraded xfs, the code changed from rc to ii. After this, vncserver can be started successfully.

But this is not the end of the story. Although vncserver can now be started, there is a blank screen only shown in the remote computer. I can't run any application on the remote computer.

Any advice? Does this problem relate to X file manager? Xfbdev, Xvesa,???????

Try searching "all forums" for keyword "vncserver".  At the moment there are two other people who are trying to get VNC Server up and running and they are making progress.
Another update!

I found that the status code of xterm was not ii as well. Hence I upgaded this package also.

Now vncserver can be started successfully and fluxbox is shown on the remote computer.

But I have to start vncserver at text mode (run level = 2). It does not work if I start vncserver in rxvt inside X. Furthermore, only fluxbox is shown in the remote computer with three options: restart, exit and shell. No other applications at all.

Hello Charles,

I busy with a vncserver, which works great .
It's based on vnc4beta5, there is already a beta releas of the package available on my website:
http://www.dukkieduk.tk damnsmall -> vnc
But I'm still working out some small problems. there is an other topic on this forum related to this issue, please have a look there.

Regards
Dukkieduk
