Networking :: How to set up internet connection?

Hi,

iam a total novice to linux. I have internet through LAN
but i dont know how to configure it. Please help

If we are to offer any help, we will need to know more details
about your current network..

Are you using it now for other computers?
What operating systems are they running?
Are you using a dsl/cable/dialup/modem?
Are you using any routers/hubs/switches?

i have a dial up modem using pap/chap.. how does one set this up in pppsetup? i have attempted to and it appears that my setup is broken, or just doesnt work

how can i configure my connection in dsl?i have a winXP OS i downloaded dsl bootable live cd.i dont know how to configure to setup a new connection im using a dial-up connection.i have no router only a modem.can anyone teach me how to connect to the internet in dsl?? plss help
