So yah you lost me , is should type ifconfig eth0 then the IP my rovider gave me or the one my router has given me? and i have run knoppix on the box it was painfully slow but it did grab my net card so how can i get that info into DSL

See the documentation for the ifconfig command. You will need your IP on your network, your IP of your router and the DNS of your service provider. For a better understanding you'll probably find a howto on networking at www.tldp.org
where can i view this documentation ? thanks for the help sorry abount all the newbie questions

Well under a 'normal' linux distro you'd do man ifconfig. But it seems the man pages have been stripped from DSL, but if you stick man ifconfig into google you'll find the man pages there.

I'm having similar problems. But mine seem to "work" but then I still can't access the internet... I have just done "ifconfig eth0 [myip]" then tried to use dillo... but nothing.

I don't use DHCP though.

You need to set up a DNS server address in /etc/resolv.conf

Without it you will have loacl network access but no internet access.

The stock choices in netcardconfig seem to work fine for me.

:D

hey yo

i dont know the real solution but have some ideas. when i started my dsl, and ping at the beginning some sites, it say it cannot find anything but then ifdown eth0 again give some errors, after that, ifup eth0 then everything is fine.

sorry for my english :D
