Networking :: Oh, to get online with DSL and 536ep modem...
Greetings.
I would like to get my Intel 536ep (Dick Smith XH1154) 56k dialup internal modem online with DSL.
I have managed to get online using Ubuntu 5.04 and the proceedure set out very well in the first post in this thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=37465&highlight=536ep
The question is: would anyone be willing to advise the changes required in the post referred to in order to use it with DSL?
I am only looking for the changes in the command lines.
Linux generally doesn't work well (if at all) with internal modems due to the specific drivers they need, which are generally only written for Windows.
Most (if not all) external modems will work, however. So save yourself the pain and time of getting the thing to work and buy a cheap external modem.
Thank you for your response Bigpilot.
I have tried to get online using a 33.6k US Robotics external modem and ppp but no go. I have DSL version 1.4 (No burner to burn a more recent version). Using Puppy from the same era ppp detected the modem but I could not get online.
At least with the 536ep internal modem I have got online with Ubuntu 5.04 thanks to the full script linked to above.
I guess if I wanted it easy I would stick with Windows
original here.
