Networking :: internet problems

im having problems with my internet connection. i can get it configured in pppconfig, but when i goto dial, i never get connected to the internet. this would be alot easier if i had my comcast connection routed to my computer, but i dont have a router, and my parents arent buying one anytime soon, so im stuck with my dial up connection. is there a prompt that is supposed to come up, or does the menu just go away? or do i have to dial the nuber myself?

The behavior you describe sounds like you may have a "winmodem", if so, not much we can do. You need to have a real hardware modem.

You can see the activity/log of the modem trying to connect by typing the command in an xterm window.

tail -f /var/log/messages

Type ctrl-c to exit the tail command.
Sometimes this command is helpful when you have the sound turned off.

how can i connect to the internet using dsl??im only using a dial up connection.dont have any router.can somebosy plss help me
