Networking :: Internet?

OK, I did a little research, and my best recommendation is for you to use the ethernet port on that modem. Ethernet cards can be had for less than $10 on ebay or maybe you can even get a used one at your local computer store.
alright....sounds good to me...thanks for all your help

umm......"SpeedStream 5200 ASDL Modem"

Hi,

I'm also new to linux and to DSL 2.3 as well.

I have somewhat the same problem, I can't get to the Internet.

I have the same modem, Speedstream 5200 from Sympatico.  I have an ethernet card that is recognized by DLS while booting.

I get this message when I "pon" in Aterm.

SIOCSIFFLAG: permission denied
/usr/sbin/pppd: can't open option file /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider: permission denied

???

Anybody has a suggestion?

Thanks

Yes. After you plug in the modem to the ethernet card, you should be able to use DHCP to connect to the internet through the modem because it is also a router with a DHCP server according to the documentation. If your ISP assigns a password then you may need to use set a network username and password. You do that through the administrative screens that you get when you type http://speedstream in a browser. You may need to setup either an ethernet bridge, if you have another router, and/or a PPP connection if that's the protocal that your ISP uses.
Thank you.

I'll try it when I get back home and post a feedback! :)
