Hi, the above wireless usb stick doesn't work correctly
it needs ndiswrapper to use drivers, if i do it manually it workes fine, except when i type
Code Sample
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid myessid
nothing actually changes, ie if i go
Code Sample
iwconfig wlan0
it will still say essid is any/all. it works however if i use another iwconfig command ie
Code Sample
sudo iwconfig wlan0 channel 6
, changes it so if i do a
Code Sample
iwlist wlan0 channel
it now says channel 6 (instead of 0).
if i do it in the gui with iwconfig, it just takes ages and i gave up as it stopped responding. if i do it with wlcardconfig it goes through the steps but freezes when it gets to setting essid, and when i use ndiswrapper it goes through installing driver, then it gives error can't connect, and prism2 didn''t work either (same as iwconfig)
note im using an ascii wep (prefixing with s:), though i dont think that should matter. The stick works on my ubuntu desktop and server though those are significantly faster :P, it also worked on the same machine through windowsive also tried the iwconfig.sh and prism2.sh scripts, no luckAccording to ndiswrapper WIKI site, here is more information. Driver files obtained from the SIS web site:
Card: Trendnet TEW-424UB 802.11g Wireless USB Adapter
* Chipset: sis163u (Silicon Integrated Systems Corp) * pciid: 0457:0163 * Driver: Latest driver for sis163 from http://www.sis.com * Other: Works with WEP, WPA+TKIP and WPA+AES; tested with ndiswrapper version 1.13 and 1.4hi, ive tried that, and all the other mentions of the sis163u chipset. one thing i did notice is that when i do iwconfig it says that the drivers for wlan0 is compiled with version 16 of wireless extentions but recommends version 18. and according to this version 18 is compiled by default into kernel 2.6.13 but is trhere a way to patch it onto a 2.4 kernel? if so how?. dsl-n is at 2.6.11 atm so just below .13 where v18 we's s. but if the laptop works with a 2.6.x kernel, should i try and compile and run it. just need to find a .config for 2.6.x kernels (probaly asking in wrong forum, i will try dsl-n pages as well) and the knoppix-patch (will the dsl ve4rsion work in a 2.6 kerel?)
