Networking :: Please help newbie install g122 wifi dongle
hi, im very new to linux (have played about a bit with debian and ubuntu) now ive come across dsl i really like it.
ive install it to my hard drive (fungal install) but cant for the life of me get my usb dongle working.
im runnung dsl 1.3 i think and i have a DWL-G122 rev.B1
any help would be great, if you say to try installing something could you please instruct me on how to do it as like i said im very new to linux.
cheers
To check your DSL version in those versions you can open dillo and it might be there.
Your DWL-G122 rev.B1 seems to use rt2500 - which afaik most DSL users have gotten to work with ndiswrapper.
ive managed to get it working with both debian and ubuntu using the linux driver not ndiswrapper (but i cant remember how i done it)
i dont mind using ndiswrapper, but as ive never used it before could someone please help me out?
cheers
If you had searched around, the problem with the linux driver is that it _still_ doesn't support SMP enabled kernels, in which DSL is by default (debian/ubuntu aren't).
I think there's some help in the wiki on ndiswrapper..
After searching different posts, here's the solution I came up with:
(I'm using version 3.0.1)
1. Boot DSL with the 'nosmp' option
-at the boot: prompt type "linux nosmb"
2. Use ndiswrapper to recognize the g122 dongle
-point it at the .inf file that came on the CD
