I'm brand new to DSL - I had no trouble at all getting it to boot, but I cannot get the WiFi started. I've got a genuine Orinoco Gold PCMCIA WiFi Card (one of the ones that's supposed to "just work out of the box" :-) When I boot it says -
eth0: Station identity 001f:0001:0007:001c eth0: Looks like a Lucent/Agere firmware version 7.28 eth0: Ad-hoc demo mode supported eth0: IEEE standard IBSS ad-hoc mode supported eth0: WEP supported, 104-bit key eth0: MAC address .... eth0: Station name "HERMES I" eth0: ready eth0: index 0x01: Vcc 5.0, irq 3, io 0x0180-0x01bf
There are no errors (indeed, no other messages at all) that refer to eth0. How come ifup doesn't find it? Is this expected, or bad ? Is that a dumb question ?
Is it a problem that my Orinoco firmware is not the latest? Anybody know where to download the latest firmware? All the original Orinoco stuff (e.g. www.orinocowireless.com) seems to have disappeared from the web.
If I go on to Iwconfig, after entering the channel, SSID and WEP key, it just says "Connection failed". And Wlanconfig just says "No network card found".
Question - is Iwconfig the correct next step? Is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?
Thanks!Make sure you enter the WEP key as colon separated pairs, e.g.,
99:88:77:....

Thanks! That was part of my problem - the other issue appears to be that the SSID needs to be in quotes.
In any case, it's working now. Thanks again!
