Networking :: wlcardconfig password -is it hex? Does it use WEP?
I'm trying to set up a PCMCIA Netgear WG511T on a very old Acernote Light model 370 PC with 16mb of ram. DSL 3.3 syslinux with debian install.
The machine recognizes the card and wlcardconfig seems to work fine, but it won't connect. I've tried 'pump -i ath0' and it makes the leds flash on the card and at my router, but it fails to connect. I can't even ping my router.
I've got the name of my wireless router filled in for the ESSID
NWID is blank
enter mode for ath0 is blank
I've got my channel number set on the enter channel number screen.
I've got my encryption key entered on the encryption key screen.
The next three screens of additional parameters are blank.
Is the encryption key WEP and is it in hex?
Do I have some other problem? I really don't know much about this. I've been searching and learning, but I think I am stuck now.
Thanks for any help.
For wep, I believe it is in hex and is separated by colons.
Thanks for the response. I tried entering the key in hex separated by colons (##:##:##:##:##). I got the same response to 'pump -i ath0' as before some blinking of the LEDs on the card and whats seems to be a few blinks in response on the router. Then 'operation failed'.
Do you have any other ideas on how to make this work?
