Networking :: Internal Modems

As part of my NFP, I would like to purchase modems in bulk at the lowest price possible to use with the PC's I distribute to needy children. If you are using an internal modem with DSL, please share the modem specs.

I would ideally like to use externals but haven't had much luck finding them at a low price.

Thanks
Chris

Hello again Chris,

Perhaps you have better methods, but why not give my collection of online shopping links a try? Find them at:
http://www.geocities.com/neohephaestus/links/shopping.html

You might try starting with the Price Watch price engine:
http://www.pricewatch.com/

I went there, clicked "modems", then "external". Prices start at $15 with shipping. Before you buy a lot, check out vendor reps using my other shopping page links for that. Good luck!

Has anyone ever tried one of these? Hardware PCI. Says it's a hardware modem and is less than $8. Newegg is a great online company to order from.

Chris

Looks like the controllerless Intel modem that I helped Narg set up on IRC.

Works okay with Debian, but I'm not sure how to do it in DSL.

yeah, I'm looking to install dsl as my main operating system (livecd was nice) and I was wondering if anyone had a particular success with either network cards (I hear network cards made by realtek often get 'auto-configured' with many linux distros) or success with sound cards ?
Check for drivers at linuxant.com.  I got one and is connected alot faster than the packaged one with Mandrake 9.2.  They cost $15.  Then a month later I got dsl, as in verizon dsl.
