Networking :: Dialup issues...it wont work!

I inadvertantly erased the harddrive on my laptop (toshiba satellite pro 4300) when i tried installing DSL to the harddrive, and so i've decided just to stick with dsl (no windows cd...lost in an abyss of cds). One problem though, I keep gettin errors when trying to dialup, the script is all setup and ready to do, but there is a lline which stand out in ppp dial messages, ill shorten the uselss crap off it:

chat[494]: Can't get terminal parameters: Input/output error

The modem is on COM2 in windows, which is ttyS1 in linux? this is my first linux experience...so yeah im a newbie.

Try different serial ports like /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyS1, /dev/ttyS2, /dev/ttyS3 , etc

Sometimes the COM port number does not appear in the same spot when booting linux.
