Networking :: NIC Not Recognized

You might need to grab the broadcom 550 driver from mydsl.

it looks like that's not the right driver...

Yes Chris, your typical non help response. If you bothered to read OPs post and the reference you gave, you would see that OP did follow your hero's suggestion. If you can't offer real help, why do you reply to calls for help?

Hi, Geoff.

Have you tried what cbagger suggested HERE?

Chris

Are you sure the NIC is a Broadcom 440? I used this EXACT command at an su terminal to get my Broadcom 440 NIC recognized.

"modprobe b44"

After the system returns you to the prompt, enter "lsmod" and see if b44 shows up in the list of modules. If it is there, just do the netcardconfig setup, either from the menu item or from a terminal prompt.

Good luck, jimbo

I am a little nervous about adding to this post but trust my question will be well received.

I also have a problem with a Broadcom 440 NIC not being recognised.  I have (to the best I can) tried the suggestions in this thread and others, specially the suggestion to:

Hi, jimbo.

I referenced that post because it was a plain modprobe b44 as opposed to a modprobe -dv as seen in Geoff's screenshot. I have never used a -dv flag to insert a module so I thought that post might be helpful. I found it by using one of ke4nt's mentioned search criteria listed before. I was trying to help by doing a search for him.

Chris, if you wanted to be helpful and not just look good, you would have just said "I have never used a -dv flag to insert a module".  Then OP might have recognized some subtle difference between what he did and what your hero did.

When you respond to a call for help, give help and don't just try to look good. That is a sure sign of an insecure and immature personality.
