Networking :: depmod: Can't open /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.dep



OMG  After hours of waiting I got the reply on how to get my modem drivers to install!!!!!!!!!!!

One problem typically  ???

depmod: Can't open /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.dep for writing

I get that at the end of my install, and anytime I check my modem status it says they are not loaded!!

Anytime on Kubuntu (Debian based) it works straight off.

So what is going wrong? I am sooooooooo close from formatting my harddrive of other distros and leaving DSL on, if I can get the internet working!

EDIT - Extra info:
uname -r confirms it's Kernel 2.4.26
I am loads 2 MyDSL's:

2004/09/084  clacker   gcc g++ make for DSL 0.8   3.3.4  16M  gcc1.dsl

+

2004/12/224  SaidinUnleashed   DSL kernelsources   2.4.26-knoppix  3.3M  kernelsource.dsl

Still have no idea - I am still running live CD, not going to install until I know it will connect to the internet
If you are running from a liveCD try this:

sudo rm /lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.*
sudo cp /KNOPPIX/lib/modules/2.4.26/modules.* /lib/modules/2.4.26

Then try installing again.  On the liveCD these files are links to the files on the CD.
Yep, that's what I do..
Works for me..

Remember to back them up!
