Networking :: MicroCOM

I’m having problems sending characters using MicroCom. I am connected via a NULL modem serial cable to Windows HyperTerminal running at 4800 8N1. I can send characters from the windows machine and these are happily translated to my microcom screen. My script has one line:

send $GP

…and nothing happens. I’m assuming my syntax is wrong. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
