Networking :: ifconfig - a does nothing

I have not tried gnu-utils ...
since I do not understand what or where this critter is....

no... I have a general idea what gnu-utils might be
but not how it works within DSL

It is strange that several DSL alike distros fail on that notebook
whereas others have no problem at all......
