Networking :: wireless freezing up

have finally gotten my wireless(wpc54g)working.have a problem though, when i try downloads the laptop freezes up. have to reboot,etc.
the partition and swap are big enough(3gb and 512mb,respectively) so don't think that's a problem.
anybody know what the problem is and a fix?? would appreciate any suggestions. thanks.
