Networking :: Intel 537 ep winmodem
People,
First off, thanks for a great little OS, I'm now using it more than any of the bigger, more familiar distros and learning loads!
I have an Intel 537 ep winmodem that will take a bit of work to get running if past experience is anything to go by.
My question is; if I compile a .dsl or .uci for it on an embeded install on my work PC which doesn't have a modem, will I be able to use it on a frugal install on my home PC where the modem is? If not it'll take me longer, but I'll still get there!
My home PC is a Compaq presario with 128MB RAM and a 1.3GHz celeron processor (and a damn winmodem since my real modem got fried!)

In theory, you should be able to compile the driver on a different computer system without the hardware being present.
Personally, if I had a Presario Desktop I'd take the easy route and just go out and buy a real modem or a Lucent winmodem and use it instead. Notebooks are a different story, of course.
Thanks for that cbagger01,
I agree with you about replacing the modem. My problem is that I did six months ago, and herself will blow her stack if I buy another this soon.
My surge protector saved my PC from the lightning, but I didn't have surge protection on my phone line so my modem went pftt..... Oh well, if I wasn't after getting the modem I'd have been using the winmodem and it would have been my PC instead!
