Laptops :: Laptop Distro
So I don't want to cause a ruckus or anything, but it seems that DSL is the choice that owner's of old laptops love to make. It runs great on my laptop, but it lacks some things that it could really use. For Instance:
The Dock should have a battery meter.
There should be some better power management features, like maybe a Suspend mode.
These are just the two biggest ones for me. I'm not asking for this, but rather "putting it out there." These are two things I would like, I've been working on the battery meter (as I know it can be done) but I'm fairly sure I cannot add any suspend mode without tampering with the distro, something I am not willing to do. In DSL, my battery life is substantially less than when I boot into Windows 95 (just in case i need it, for some of my older DOS games like descent and strike commander).
Although this is the nicest forum I've seen in my travels, don't kill me, for I am still in my linux infancy (I just don't like the term n00b, I prefer infant).
Maybe a distro could be added to some of the FTP sites with minor tweaks made especially for laptop users. I would work on it, but I'm still getting the bash line down for god sakes.
I found a really nice meter that loads into the Fluxbox slit called wmapm in the Window Manager extension area of the DSL repository (works well with my Compaq 1610). There's also one for the ACPI battery. If your using JWM, Torsmo can also monitor battery life and charging status by editing the config file.
well thats one concern solved, and my love for DSL grows more and more.
hehe....you know what I say!
Cmon peeps..its not patented or nothing
