Laptops :: Keyboard not working

First,  I want to say that I am fascinated by DSL. It was pure chance that I found it.  To be honest, I don't remember what I was originally searching for because I got sidetracked with this and spent all day with it!

Anyway,  onto the issue at hand.  I am working on a HP TC1100 (convertible tablet) that works great under WinXP Tablet and Knoppix 4.0.2.  I am able to boot fine to DSL, however, I cannot get the keyboard to work.  It is the little eraser tip mouse thing in the keyboard, and that works, but I can't type anything.  If I boot with seperate USB keyboard attached,  it works fine.

Like I said above, Knoppix works fine.  That's what I am using at the moment.

I am purely a Windows guy right now,  so I am very new to Linux and don't really understand it all just yet.  Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That's weird.

Usually it's the other way around, IE: The pointer stick does not work but the keyboard itself works.

Does the builtin keyboard start working if the USB keyboard is attached, or does it continue to fail?

Worst case, your builting keyboard hardware is only supported by the newer 2.6.x linux kernel versions and will not work with DSL because DSL uses the 2.4.x series.

Nope.  The builtin keyboard does not work even with the USB keyboard.  You have given me a thought,  in that I will try an older version of Knoppix and see if the kernel is the cause.
