Laptops :: Installation issues on a 486 laptop

Before I ask my question, I just want to say that I am amazed with the work you guys have done.  DSL is truly an impressive accomplishment.  I'm a total newb when it comes to Linux (and I only have intermediate knowledge of computers in general).  I use Windows ME on a daily basis.  It's horrible.  I really want to learn more about Linux, and I thought DSL would be a great way to start.

I want to install DSL on this (really old) laptop:
IBM 701CS
80486 processor
16mb ram
516mb HD
No USB, no CD drive, no netcard--only floppy

I read SaidinUnleashed's guide 2.c.2, but I got lost.  I don't understand exactly what I need to do in each step.  I have searched the forums and the other DSL sites for help, but I have not been able to find any.  Can you please walk me through the steps with detailed info?  It would be greatly appreciated.

I know it must be annoying for newbs like me to ask for help, but I really want to learn, and I know you guys can teach me.  Thank you so much for any support you can provide, and I hope to give back to the DSL community soon.

If you don't mind taking the disk out of your laptop, you could install it in another PC (disconnect all other hard disks; you probably need a 2.5"-3.5" adapter if you use a desktop), install DSL and finally put the disk back.
