Laptops :: Toshiba Tecra 8000
Greetings all.
I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000, PII 366 MHz, 128M. DSL 2.1 and 2.3 boot and work fine, but I'm trying to get a wireless PCMCIA card working. I currently use a D-Link DWL-G630 with madwifi.dsl on a Compaq M700, PIII 700MHz, 256M. The M700 works fine using both DSL 2.1 and 2.3 (these use different kernels, different madwifi dsl extensions). Neither combination works on the Toshiba, so I suspect it's a hardware issue as opposed to an extension issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not averse to buying another wifi card if I can find something that works.
Cheers,

In case anyone's interested, I found a solution. I set the Toshiba's BIOS for PCMCIA to 16-bit. Madwifi still would not work, but ndiswrapper did. So now I'm able to use the DWL-G630 on the Toshiba. Why I have to use a 16-bit setting for a 32-bit card, I don't know. But, it works and that's the goal.
To recap: I have found that the D-Link DWL-G630, H/W Ver. C2 (Atheros chipset) works with DSL. On a Compaq M700, I have to use madwifi, on the Toshiba Tecra 8000, I must use ndiswrapper.
Now I just have find out where to buy another one.
I had to do that with my 480CDT too, but I forgot about it because it never changes once it's set. I bought mine in ebay.
