Laptops :: keyboard configuration

I'm new to Linux and dsl. However I've managed an HD install on an old laptop (Clevo 862, dsl 7.2 ) - it has uk keyboard but certain keys don't map properly when I use uk keyboard setting.
Anyone know how I can rectify this. I'm happy to take the time to map them by hand if need be.
