I'm trying to run DSL 2.4 from the live CD on a Compaq Presario 1681 Pentium with 233 Mhz and 160 MB of RAM.
Every time I start it up, I use the boot option xsetup so it doesn't default to xvesa. I tried every combination I could think of with xvesa, but all resulted in a severely distorted screen. There are vertical bars that obscure everything. With the xfbdev option, everything is almost perfect. System stats says it uses the Neomagic xmodule and the xdesc says "NM2160 [MagicGraph 128XD] (laptop/notebook).
The only trouble is that with xfbdev it's running at 1024x768 while the maximum resolution the screen can handle is 800x600, so all that gets displayed is the top left of the screen.
Under the DSL panel there's a button to change the xvesa options but none for xfbdev. Is there any way to adjust its resolution? If that can't be changed, are there any other options? Thanks.Forgive me, I am an idiot. I just found the answer =http://http/....ttp

Same problem as I'm having, What was the solution? It might have been to use the boot option "fb800x600". (Press the f2 key at the "boot" prompt to see the options listed.)
