Laptops :: Touch Pad Issue

I noticed the issue when I first installed DSL 2.4 and now with DSL 3.0. The focus seams to suddenly change from where I am typing to where the cursor is located. I notice it most often when using Firefox for web mail. The hardware is a Gateway solo pro 9300 with 288 megs of RAM and 500 mhz P3. Any suggestions?
