Laptops :: Instalation without a CD-drive an much RAM

Hi!

I have a old laptop PCD-4L/50, 4 MB RAM, 256 MB HD, Intel 486 DX2SL.

It works with Windows 95. Now I want to install DSL.
But I search something over the conditions for system :(. Are 4 MB RAM enought ???  ?
Can I install DSL over my Desktop PC on the hard disk and than put it in the Laptop?
That I have doew with Windows 95

Thanks for your help!

David

4mb? :S
The minimum for the gui is 16mb afaik.

Thanx!

I didnīt found anything about the systempreformance in the I-Net.

But if, I have 16 MB RAM I can install it on the HD (256 MB) ?

Have a nice day!
David

16 MB should be (just) ok - it will be slow though. Use 24-32 MB for a swap partition and the rest of the disk for the HD install. If you cannot get 16 MB, take a look at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/baslinux/
I just have to tell you about this UNIX OS in this post (even it goes totally off-topic, sorry about that):

It's called Inferno. It's very lightweight, but most propably harder to master than DSL. It does have GUI so you don't always need to rely on CLI.
I haven't tried it just yet, but I plan to.

Here's some nice features from its homepage:

You will need a CD-drive to install this. ;( I don't know if there's any other way to install it. Using an external CD-drive prehaps..?
See Inferno's web page for more.
