Laptops :: Support requested, can't get sound to work.
I've been trying different distros for my old laptop during the past weeks. I am impressed with DSL and have it already running on my HD, it rund like a charm and gets connected to Internet automatically using PCMCIA 10/100 card. However, I have not been able to make sound work. It has a Crystal CS4232 which is not wanting to respond to any my of my efforts to make it work. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I've been using linux for acouple months only, there is probably something easy that solves my issue and I have not noticed yet.
Hi there!
Well... nevermind. After unsuccesfully trying it I decided to install slackware 9.1 ... it installed easy and the sound worked after some nights of entertaintment figuring out how to make it work.
However, the applications were too much for my old laptop (only 64 in RAM), so I decided to go back to DSL. I just installed it and the experience with slackware helped me figure out how to set the sound. Now itś working.
For those of you who may be curious... modprobe cs4232 io=0x534 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 (type this in a root shell after installing the alsa driver, alsaconf and alsa-utils).
See you,
Mauricio
