Laptops :: Sony Laptop DSL loading problems - help
Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio PCG-N505VX
I have a CD-rom booting via pcmcia. The welcome to DSL screen comes up and the following message appears:
Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press reset button to quit.
Additional builtin commands available.
cat mount umount
insmod rmmod lsmod
Knoppix # (flashing curser)
Ok please help - what do I need to do. The cd worked on another laptop (dell latitude) but will not get any further than this screen.
What is the "reset" button - I tried reseting via alt-ctrl-del - same issue.
Thanks in advance,
crazy grasshopper
Try booting with this:
boot: dsl ide2=0x180 0x386 pci=off
You may also need vga=normal
Thanks roberts,
The boot code allowed the system to run from CD. The only problem I am encountering is the sound no longer works.
Still learning DSL. So far I really like it.

If you click on DSLpanel Icon, then select System Stats, Hardware
This will show you what DSL has found for your sound card.
Post the sound info here and possibly someone will know and can help.
Hi,
Here is what my system has detected:
Yamaha Corporation YMF-744B [DS-1S Audio Controller]
driver = "ymfpci"
Thanks
