Laptops :: ACPI Bios.... no luck

Just edit grub's menu.lst, as root

sudo vi /cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst

unless you are also running toram mode in which case you will have to fiirst mount the partition from which you booted and then

sudo vi /mnt/hdxy/boot/grub/menu.lst

Also, sometimes acpi=force will work with marginal acpi systems.
