Laptops :: Screen is unreadable

I have down loaded the DSL, iso and burned that to a cd. Then put it in a older laptop a Gateway2000 Solo, with a 155mhz process. and 32mb ram. When I boot from the CD, the install begins with no problem, then I get to a screen that says ( You passed an undefined mode number) then it gives me a choice of video adapters Mode:  0-6 each with a number Im not familur with, I have selected all them on seperate boots. The same thing happens the install continues but when the main window opens, the color is so bad I can not read anything. Any suggestoins? I would also like to do a hard drive install with this computer since windows is such a drain in the machine. How do I go about that? :)

Try this page. Alternatively, you can skip the modes offered by hitting the space bar and waiting for the xsetup.sh script. That script is the one that asks if you want framebuffer (which you probably do on the laptop), what resolution, mouse type, keyboard, etc. If you get into X (fluxbox) and things aren't right, you can exit X by holding ctrl-alt-backspace. That will take you back to the console. From there you can run the script again by typing "xsetup.sh" (and enter). You don't have to keep rebooting to go through that.

As far as installing it, make sure you can get it working first. The install scripts are in the menu.

When I use the ctrl_alt-backspace  I get this blue screen with brackets all over it then it just freezes/ hmm?  im at a stand still
Please post your video system specs, and your monitor as well.

You might need to use fb bootcodes, with the xfbdev xserver.  Like "fb800x800 xsetup"
