Laptops :: Wont boot DSL at all.
it is set to boot from cd first but it wont on ANY iso. any suggestions?
Are you burning it the right way? I made that mistake the first time too. You have to get a ISO burning software like BurnCDCC. The ISO needs to be extracted and then burned into the disk.
There may be two problems here, and I may suggest that you obtain an
original DSL cd to try, from John Andrews:
The CD purchase page
Once you get that CD, try it and see if the machine will boot it.
If it will not boot, try another machine or two. You might also, if you can,
ask John Andrews to send you a copy of DSL 0.6.2 also. It will boot on
machines when 0.8.x will not.
Also, if you are reasonably sure that your CD burning method is OK, then
download the older version and try it if you can. Here is the link:
The DSL Archive
Another good older version to consider is 0.5.3.1
It will run Opera 6.03. Check my General Howto on that. I consider 0.5.3.1 to be a real jewel of a DSL
distro! It will boot on almost any machine.
The 5x and 6x versions differ from 8x versions in the way they are booted, because of the size of the kernel, and that can make
a difference on which machines they will or will not run on.

Hope this helps.

0.7.1 runs on most machines, some will not boot 0.8.*
make sure you are burning it right (not just copying the iso as a file on the cd but using a "burn iso to disk" option in the burning software). what happens when you try to boot? it just carries on and boots from your hdd q? in windows (or any other os) try to read the cd. if you see dsl-0.8.0.iso in there then you burned the cd wrong, you should see a couple of folders (named knoppix and isolinux) and a file named index.html, if you see this then it is your machine having boot troubles
